Lace
Lace, a delicate web-like fabric that originally signified wealth and status, has become a material associated with erotica due to the relationship it has with the skin. Robyn Bernadt explores flesh and the aesthetics of sexual desire in a series of intricate hand-cut paper works that blend lace patterns with Playboy centrefolds. The interplay of skin and pattern engage the viewer in a ‘reveal and conceal’ relationship, that mimics the act of a peep show.
