X-Stitch Ladies (miniatures)
'X-Stitch Ladies' draws on the aesthetics of cross stitch design. Pornographic imagery is meticulously collaged out of hundreds of tiny holes punched from vintage Australian Women's Weekly. The works excite a wonderful clash of sensibilities between the domestic craft of the cross stitch, the printed material the circles are extracted from, and the explicit images the artist explores. The inevitable result is a conflict between the beauty of the colours, pattern and design, and the vulgarity of the image.
