Memento Mori
‘Memento Mori’ is a visual reminder of the ephemerality of human existence. Skulls, roses and a dark landscape are deftly rendered from thousands of tiny circles extracted from National Geographic. These incredible illusions of space, solidity, texture, and light reference the memento mori tradition of Dutch still life and landscape painting of the 1600s and offer a powerful commentary on the current environmental crisis.
